it’s formation in 1927, the orchestra has offered enthusiastic
amateurs, with a range of abilities, the opportunity to play together
in an atmosphere, which aims to promote enjoyment in music making.
David Porter was Musical Director from 2002 until he retired in June 2014.The orchestra has now appointed Dr.Brian Wilshere as it's new MD
The ensemble has a current membership of about 25.New members are welcome in all sections,especially strings.Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 8.00pm until 10.00pm
The development of the orchestra was given a further boost by receipt of a grant from “Awards for All” (a lottery fund element).
The repertoire encompasses many classical works as well as those of a lighter nature. In addition it includes some interesting and accessable contemporary pieces
The orchestra has a long association with Saint Mildred’s Church, Addiscombe.The church hall has been the centre for rehearsals and concerts since 1965.The church is near a tram stop,is readily acessible from East Croydon Station and there is plentiful on- street parking.
